I added a separate FW-card (The Dawicontrol DC-1394 PCI) to connect with my Fireface800 I'm so happy, I can now keep my FF400 for hopefully many more years, as it's still in perfect condition - so great to be able to use my gear so long after purchase!īought a new computer in January (ASUS P8Z77 with Win8). So far, still - no problems, even under heavy CPU it's been solid, no glitches!īefore, with the standard driver, even just booting windows and just playing an mp3 would cause problems - sometimes 5 minutes later, sometimes instantly. Hehe, I understand you needing to keep details under wraps, I was just curious as you initially seemed to think it wasn't possible to get things working with Microsoft's problematic drivers.Įither way, I am very thankful and this is why I initially bought my RME, because people always praise your driver stability and updates. This could (could !) mean that even there the legacy driver is no longer needed (in case you needed to change to it before). I will upload a new version this evening which adds the same change for Windows 7.

I am still astonished about the positive feedback. It just happened what we always refer to - we were able to finally experience this specific problem on one of our computers with Windows 8. I haven't keep track of that as the TI Legacy driver that is included in W10 is what I use testing W10 with the Sonnet FW800 PCIe card with UAD FW Apollo & UAD FW Satellite.Sorry, but I can (ok, I confess, I don't want to) give details about the fix itself. That may still be the case for W10 public release builds as well. Note that those W7 Legacy drivers had to be re-installed every time a new W10 pre-release build was pushed out. I don't expect that they will ever update those docs as FW dies of unsupported old age just as we won't likely ever see another official release of IFFW drives from Tascam. They only mention that they are for W8/8.1 as that is how they were first offered and they have never bothered to update their documentation as it is officially unsupported. Since most if not all the same FW issues were also in W10, including in the W10 pre-release insiders versions, they instructed users to download and install the W7 Legacy FW drivers into W10. W10 isn't really W10 as much as it is W8.5 that they choose to name W10 as far as DAW and ASIO audio goes. The same applies to W10 which I believe are either the same W8/8.1`FW drivers or a mild variation of them included in W10.

Thus, only those that really needed them installed them. Microsoft changed/updated/re-wrote the FW drivers in W8/8.1 and when users started to pound on them about the problems and issues with FW devices, they then allowed the Legacy FW drivers from W7 to be downloaded and be installed in W8/8.1 rather than fix what they broke or to include the W7 Legacy FW drivers in W8/8.1 installer. Click to expand.Perhaps I can explain any confusion.
